Gallup's listening - to everyone

This issue of our European newsletter demonstrates the extent to which Gallup covers the issues of the day across the globe. It starts with an in-depth look at several of our recent Flash Eurobarometer surveys: these provide the citizens' views (and in some cases the decision-makers') on subjects ranging from the EU's Communication Policies to Urban Living and from Entrepreneurship to Transport Policies. Such surveys are released on a regular basis and readers should visit ec.europa.eu/public_opinion/archives/flash_arch_en.htm to get a regular update on the new releases.

Also in the spotlight this issue is Sub-Saharan Africa and we were able to get an interview with Bob Tortora Gallup's Principal Scientist Chief Methodologist and Regional Research Director. Bob's been working in Africa for the World Poll and the interview throws some interesting new ideas on how the Continent could be helped.

The World Poll is set for greater exposure in Europe in 2008 and ahead of that we are showcasing a couple of articles that use data from that on-going survey as a basis; one on the global well-being rankings and one on attitudes to gays and lesbians around the world. Returning to Europe we examine young people's attitudes regarding the suitability of educational programmes.

As usual we also feature our regular spots - 'Transatlantic corner' and 'A window on the world' - that give revealing insights in to what citizens are thinking from Brussels to Bangkok and from New York to Newcastle. We have also continued our series of questions that might be baffling some of our readers this time we ask are response rates important? That's it for this issue except for a few words about Gallup's partnership with Europe's World. You may have seen Gallup's graphs in the latest issue of the journal that hit the newsstands in October. That collaboration will continue into 2008 so watch out for more Gallup data coming your way soon.
