Americans more negative than usual about personal finances

When asked to assess their personal financial situations 39% of Americans report being better off now than they were a year ago and 39% say they are now worse off. That represents a slightly more negative assessment than Gallup typically finds on this question which dates back to 1976. (November 2007)

Four in 10 Americans say recession is likely next year

A recent USA Today/Gallup poll finds that 40% of Americans believe it is very or fairly likely that there will be an economic recession over the next 12 months. In a separate question about one in three believe the economy is already in a recession. (November 2007)
