CHIESI, Antonio M.
Curriculum
Antonio M.Chiesi is professor of Methodology of
the Social Sciences and director of the Department of Sociology
and Social Research at the University of Trento. He has previously
taught, as associate professor, the same subject at the University
of Turin (1995-1997), Sociology of Work and Sociology of Organizations
at the University of Cagliari (1992-1994), Sociology at the University
of Trieste, as assistant professor (1983-1994). Since 2000 he has
been appointed coordinator of the courses of Sociology at Bocconi
University, Milan, where he has taught Sociology since 1983. He
is also coordinator of the sociological and politological contributions
in the organization of the "Master in local development for
the Balkans", funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regione
Trentino-Alto Adige Süd Tirol, Universities of Trento and Bolzano-Bozen.
His main research interests are threefold and can
be summarized as follows:
a) theory: rational choice, collective action, macro trends and
modernization;
b) applications: sociology of work, organization of economic interests;
c) methodology: social indicators, multivariate techniques, network
analysis.
He has been executive secretary and member of the scientific committee
of the research group on "Economy, Work and Organization"
of the Italian Sociological Association (1987-1992), and member
of the Board of the Research Committee on "Economy and Society"
of the International Sociological Association (1994-1998). At present
he is member of the international research group "Comparative
Charting of Social Change" for the study of social indicators
in comparative international perspective and member of the Scientific
Board of "Quaderni di Sociologia. He is also member of the
scientific committee of CRéDOC (Commissariat General du Plan,
French Government). He has been advisor of labor unions, business
interests associations and local governments (among which Milan
and Genoa) on research problems related to the construction of social
indicators for the implementation of social policies. In 1996 he
has co founded the research group "Comunita & Impresa"
for the development of a methodology in social reporting, which
has been applied to a number of firms and institutions (Telecom,
Electrolux, AEM, Fondazione Cariplo, Fondazione CRT, Riva Group).
