European Working Conditions Survey

June 25, 2009: Gallup awarded contract for 2010 European Working Conditions Survey.

Gallup has again been awarded the contract for the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions’ survey (EWCS). The fieldwork will take place early in 2010 and involve interviews with over 30.000 working people across Europe. There have been four previous EWCSs (1991, 1995, 2000/2001 and 2005) and this new survey will provide a portrait of workplace trends in Europe over the last 20 years. The fourth survey, conducted by Gallup, covered the 27 EU Member States plus Croatia, Turkey, Switzerland and Norway. Click here for a full description of the 2005 EWCS and here for details of the innovative survey mapping tool that allows users to select findings from the fourth EWCS – by country or gender and in tabular, bar chart or map format. The surveys provide an overview of the state of working conditions throughout Europe, and indicate the extent and type of changes affecting the workforce and the quality of work. The recurring nature of the survey shows the trends in working conditions throughout Europe. The survey questionnaire has expanded from 20 questions in the first edition to nearly 100 questions and sub-questions in 2005. Topics covered in the survey include working time, work organisation, pay, work-related health risks and health outcomes, and access to training.
