Lithuania's membership in EU is
supported by two thirds of the population
The public poll research, that
is organized every month, shows that Lithuania's membership
in EU is supported by 2/3 of the population. If the
referendum was organized now, 66.3% of the respondents
would say "yes" for the membership. In March
membership in EU was supported by 65.5% of the population.
13.3% of the respondents would
not support the membership. In March this figure was
the same. The figure of the undecided now makes 20.4%
of the respondents, in March this figure was 21.2%.
The representative public opinion
poll was made by the Public opinion and Market research
center "Vilmorus" on the 10 - 13 of April,
2003.
People of Malta, Slovenia and
Hungary have already said "yes" for entering
the EU. Lithuanians will express the opinion about the
future of the country in referendum that will be held
on the 10 -11 of may, 2003.
The poll shows that 69.2% of
the respondents have enough information about entering
EU. In March this figure was 60.7%. In April 2.9% of
the respondents say they have too much of such information,
21.5% lack information about entering the EU, 6.4% do
not have opinion about this question.
Lithuania and other candidate
countries have finished the negotiations in December,
2002. Lithuania intends to become the equal member of
the EU on the 1 of May, 2004.
